Case Study

To prevent conflict and combat terrorism overall, we must fix the separate issues one by one with efficiency.
Background
The specific area that we are focusing on is the College in Baghdad. We selected this place for various reasons. One of these reasons is because it is the biggest college with in excess of 80,000 undergraduates. Although it is situated on a peninsula surrounded by water which makes it safer then the rest of the campuses but nonetheless over 80 professors were already kidnapped or killed and several students murdered. Still during in 2007 seven only half the amount of the students went to school regularly, hundreds of faculty members took unpaid leave of absence. Things have gotten better gradually, now many teachers have returned to educate and approximately around 80% of the students started to attend school again, college is being considered safer than the students’ homes. Administrations have banned political activity on campus. Female students have been dressing in headscarves because dressing as a westerner can be easily targeted by insurgents. Still rather several students intimidate and are religiously intolerant. A student, Abbas Saad remembered that not long ago during his freshman year, students have been abducted because there was a heat talk about the Islam among his classmates. More students are trying to flee because of these unstable conditions but who will be able to help the country in the future?

The organization that we are planning to work with and model our action plan after is UNESCO. They are helping with many conflicts around the world, including the reconstruction of colleges in Iraq. UNESCO has been combating the issue by providing new books and laboratory equipments and shipping them to various universities in Iraq. We like how they care about the future of Iraq and also how they are sending supplies and textbooks to the universities and technical institutes not only in Baghdad but also places such as Basrah and Mosul, which were also affected by terrorism.
